The Steinbach Fire Department has 48 volunteer firefighters and one station. The department responds to about 320 incidents annually, covering a population of 20,000 across 36.5 square miles. Steinbach is the third largest city in Manitoba, Canada. The name of “Steinbach” is translated from German as “Stony Brook” and was first settled by Plautdietsch-speaking Mennonites from the Russian Empire in 1874.
