Organized in 1881, Maine’s Bar Harbor Fire Department dedicates their protective services to 42 square miles and a population fluctuating in density between their 5,000 year-round occupants to an influx potentially exceeding 20,000 in the summer. Between two stations, the main of which was built in 1911, the personnel is made of up 12 career and 13 volunteer firefighters who handle an average of 1,700 incidents annually.
