Ottawa Fire Services
Ottawa Fire Services has 1500 career firefighters and 500 volunteer firefighters. Across 1,077 square miles, they respond from 45 stations to 25,000 incidents each year for a population of 1 million. Geographically, Ottawa is one of the largest cities in Canada. Major historical events include the great fire of 1900. On April 26 that year, the entire city was nearly wiped out by fire. What began as a small fire in a chimney in Hull resulted in an inferno that quickly caused devastation on both sides of the river, including six deaths.
